About SYMCA
Under the leadership of South Yorkshire’s Mayor, Oliver Coppard, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) brings together the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. We work together to unlock the potential of our communities, our businesses and our places, so everyone has the opportunity to stay near and go far.
Our ambitions
In March, we unveiled the South Yorkshire People’s Network – a bold new vision and brand for the region’s public transport, where public transport is joined-up, affordable and serves every community.
Light rail is a key part of this ambition. By 2032, more than £600m will be invested in renewing and upgrading the network, including major infrastructure improvements and the introduction of a new, modern tram fleet. These upgrades will enhance performance, customer experience and lay the foundations for future expansion as part of the Mayor’s vision for a reliable, affordable, welcoming and easy to use network.
Plus, with franchised bus services set to launch in South Yorkshire from 2027, the region is moving decisively towards an integrated transport system, central to unlocking opportunities across South Yorkshire.
Our Corporate Plan sets out our vision, mission, objectives and ways of working, produced by SYMCA in partnership with the four local authorities.
