Location: South Yorkshire

Remuneration: Day rate of £1,200, with appointment terms to be agreed with the successful candidate

Commitment: Expected commitment 22 days each year including monthly Board meetings, 2 Board Away Days, ad hoc governance activity and stakeholder engagement

Chair, South Yorkshire Future Trams Ltd

Role Overview

As Chair of the Board, you will provide independent leadership to South Yorkshire Future Trams Limited (SYFTL), ensuring the organisation has a clear strategic direction and robust governance in delivering an integrated, sustainable and future-focused tram network for South Yorkshire. The Chair will play a pivotal role in delivering our ambitions and ensuring SYFTL delivers in accordance with SYMCA requirements.

Our Candidate

We are looking for a candidate with a successful track record and significant experience working at Board level, ideally as a Chair within the public transport sector, preferably the heavy rail/light rail industry. Candidates should have a proven ability to lead complex discussions, manage differing perspectives and reach sound, collective decisions.

Candidates will have a strong understanding of public sector transport and the complex governance requirements. They will have a sound understanding of financial oversight, risk management and performance monitoring at Board level and proven ability to lead complex discussions and reach collective decisions with a variety of high-level stakeholders. Candidates will be committed to delivering SYFTL’s core operational goals, ensuring these are championed as part of SYMCA’s broader vision of a fairer, greener and more prosperous South Yorkshire.
